Bartec and Raditech successfully complete a bespoke nuclear medicine dispensing station

Bartec Technologies and Raditech recently installed a bespoke nuclear medicine dispensing workstation in the Nuclear Medicine department of the Royal Liverpool Hospital, after successfully winning a tender for the project earlier this year.

The Royal Liverpool is the largest hospital in Merseyside and a leading cancer centre, treating over 20 types of cancer. It is also the regional centre for 11 types of cancer and a national centre for eye cancer. The Nuclear Medicine department required a dedicated nuclear medicine dispensing preparation area installing in their existing building at relatively short notice.

”Best value and turnaround time”

Elaine Noonan, Departmental Manager at the Hospital, explains: ”We recognised our service needed somewhere on site where we could draw radioactive material from for our patients. So we went out to tender and Bartec provided the best value and turnaround time which was very important to us.”

A nuclear medicine dispensing workstation complete with a built-in dose calibrator

Bartec and Raditech designed and produced a nuclear medicine dispensing workstation complete with integrated shielding, built-in dose calibrator and waste disposal, an extractor, fridge and surrounding bench space, plus a shielded bin enclosure with lead lining and a pedal-operated lid, to fit the space available.

Christopher Mayes, Senior Nuclear Medicine Technician, said: ”This was a whole package that was delivered very rapidly on-site and we are very pleased with the result.”

Elaine added: ”The installation was done as expected, in the time indicated and in a very tidy and professional manner.”

High quality, lead-lined furniture and containers

Scott Taylor, Sales Specialist at Bartec, said: ”We are proud to provide high quality, lead-lined furniture and containers, which comply with the most rigorous radiation safety guidelines. These units are made to measure, allowing the customer to make the most of the space available, which in this case was a factor.

”The units are also designed and manufactured in the UK using locally sourced materials which helps on a number of levels, not only in terms of reducing the carbon footprint but also in ensuring complete co-operation throughout this project in particular.

”The Bartec and Raditech team were able to liaise with the customer easily throughout the process, from design to manufacture and finally to installation, all of which was completed with a minimum of disruption and to a very time-sensitive deadline.”
