Camera at Southampton

You may remember a news article from us back in 2007 with regards to the installation of the world’s highest resolution brain imaging Gamma Camera at Southampton General Hospital.

The Department of Nuclear Medicine were looking forward to the imminent delivery of a Mediso X-RING 4HR dedicated neurological SPECT camera.

The 4 head - high resolution design allows the production of even higher quality diagnostic images than the current system they had installed. The camera provides the choice to reduce acquisition times without the compromise to image quality this would normally incur with a conventional dual head SPECT system.

This ability to reduce imaging time has been of great benefit to Southampton as some patients find long examinations physically difficult to cope with, and that factor alone can contribute towards movement artefacts in the acquired images that may compromise a whole study.

Speaking about the new camera following its first period of regular clinical use, Dean Martin, Technical and Development Manager had this to say:

"It is now a little over a year since we took delivery of the Mediso 4-HR Neuro camera. I thought it appropriate to share with you our thoughts and experiences of the last 12 months as both a Mediso Gamma Camera User and Bartec Customer.

Since coming to Southampton I have been involved in many large scale capital projects and have had cause to deal with nearly all the companies in this field, but I can say without exception that dealing with your Bartec is always a pleasure.

Regardless of whoever answers your telephone (and the speed and politeness of that is impressive in itself) I have always had either a quick response to questions or a prompt call back if further investigation was required.

The whole time from tender through to order and installation was for me an easy and stress free process. The camera itself has performed extremely well and has produced images of a very high quality just as we were told to expect…"
